New Haven County resident Henry White, age 25, of Waterbury was arrested on a warrant on Monday, June 26, for the incident which started in Beacon Falls on Route 8 on Friday, June 16.
According to Connecticut State Police, a trooper patrolling Route 8 southbound in the area of Beacon Falls, was traveling in the left lane when he spotted a silver Honda Accord with heavily tinted windows approaching the rear of his cruiser at a high rate of speed.
In an effort to view the registration plate on the Honda, the trooper pulled over into the right shoulder. After viewing the vehicle’s license plate as it passed and conducting a DMV registration query, the trooper learned that the Honda’s registration was suspended due to a lack of insurance.
The trooper activated his emergency lights and siren in an effort to stop the Honda. In response, White increased his speed and attempted to elude the trooper by weaving through traffic. Based upon the erratic operation of the Honda, the trooper terminated efforts to conduct a traffic stop, state police said.
The trooper observed that the Honda continued to travel in a reckless manner, using the median to pass traffic in the left lane, conducting unsafe lane changes and narrowly avoiding collisions with several other vehicles.
White exited in Seymour, and troopers went to his home but could not find him and his phone went unanswered.
Troopers received an arrest warrant and he was taken into custody and charged with:
- Engaging police in pursuit
- Two counts of illegal operation of a vehicle under suspension
- Reckless driving
- Failure to drive in the proper lane
- Illegal operation of vehicle without tint inspection.
White was released on a $2,500 cash/surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Derby Superior Court, on Monday, July 24.
